Usefule Plant: Stinging Nettles

By | April 10, 2010

Yeah, I know another video about stinging nettles but this one hopefully has one added bit of information not covered often. Nettles, both stinging and wood, make good rennet for cheese making.

Nettle can also be used as a “tea” form of fertilizer. Chop up some nettle into a bucket a pour rain water over it. Let set for a couple days and use to replace nitrogen, calcium, potassium, iron, sulphur, and copper.

The medical use that nettles is best known for is for arthritis. But a tonic for prostrate problems is made with equal parts nettle, plantain, and mint leaves and boiled in a small amount of water.
